Today, models are experts in processing facts; they can summarize case law or draft memos. But they lack judgment. What counts as “too” much risk? When is it worth bluffing to get a deal closed? When you hire a senior partner, making these calls is exactly what you’re paying for.
Explosive advances in AI's ability to write code and solve math problems were unlocked by verifiable rewards: problems where there is one right answer. Law has very few of these.
How do you define quality when there are many good answers? Or where the best answer depends on your opponent, as much as the game itself? How do you create an answer key without collapsing the spectrum of taste into one approach?
That’s why we’re launching Crosby Intelligence, a dedicated organization within Crosby focused on expanding the frontier of AI in legal, and empowering our law firm.
We will publish benchmarks on our field’s hardest problems, host conversations with leading scholars and practitioners, and fund open frontier research through grants.
Our goal is to define what great legal work looks like, and design agents that (actually) think like lawyers. It’s day 638 one at Crosby.
